The original Grinch wishes you all a happy new year. RULE BRITANNIA!
Oh, also, I have been looking into turning some of these paintings into T-Shirts, as well as future more T-shirt specific designs. Is that something anyone'd be interested in?
This blog will hopefully be a place where I can upload whatever personal projects and exercises I happen to be doing at the time. Feel free to comment and critique to your heart's content! Anything to help me improve is greatly appreciated.

Let's head south!
Two zombies from this week. You guess who they're supposed to be!
^ I don't know why the above image gets so deformed in previews, but if you click it you should get a non-squashed version!
That's all for this week, folks! Hyuk!

Two more fellows.
I don't actually have that much to say about these paintings! I'm very pleased with how Nixon turned out. The cerebral zombie. Anyway, that's it for this week I believe!

Alright. Zombie-Time!
The G. W. Bush painting I made last week got some pretty good responses here and there on the web, so I decided to make some more (un)dead presidents (they could totally form a band now!).
LET'S GO! Crits and comments are more than welcome as always. These are not dated, in the sense that I've worked on some of them on and off during the week. They're thus posted in order of completion, rather than when they were started.

That's all for this week! Hope you guys dig 'em :o

Quickie update.
This week sees the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops. Consequently I don't know exactly how much I'll be painting!
Still, a certain mr. Mike Mitchell said that I ought to do something more with my images, rather than just do value study after value study. He gave me a whole slew of ideas, the most notable one being ZOMBIE-FYING the portraits. Thus a 90 minute quickie on my part today that I'll probably add color to at some point;

20101028
Aaaand some more STUFFS! I had a lot of trouble with these, in all honesty! Tilted head plus light values does not a sense make in my head. Then again I don't really sketch these out with any kind of understructure but instead go straight to painting. I imagine I could've shaved quite a substantial amount of time off of these, had I actually made the appropriate effort and done some sort of basic guidelines for the facial features first. Instead it was lasso tool bonanza towards the end :o
120 minutes on october 26th
120 minutes on October 27th
And that's actually it for this week. Got a bunch of stuff to do for the weekend as well as some doggy-sitting and other things that I'm sure interest you very very much.
Anyway, as always, thank you for looking!

Quick update
I don't know that I'll have time to paint much this week so I figured I may as well throw you an update right... NOW! Yippie, eh? This one took 150 minutes on October 19th. It has some issues that I'm not quite happy with, but overall I think it's done in a style that I could get quite comfortable with and think people might enjoy looking at!
All the best!

Painted in 60 minutes on October 13th.
Painted in 100 minutes on October 14th.
That's right, no colors this week :o
I had a blast trying to figure out different ways of painting these though and I'd like to think I learned a thing or two along the way. Thanks, as always, for looking!

See? The calendar goes LOLOOL.
Anyway, slow week painting-wise on this end. Had a lot of trouble with some things. I suspect I may be overcomplicating things.

Then paint some more after that.
Right! Another week has passed and that means... MORE PAINTINGS. Down to four a week now (meaning one a day Mon through Thu), but I still feel like I'm making decent headway.
Painted on September 20th in 120 minutes.
Painted on September 21st in 110 minutes. He's just got the most adorable expression! Who's a widdle woosigoosi frog, den? Who's a widdle woosi oh God it's poisonous.
Painted on September 22nd in 60 minutes (I was very short on time, clearly).
Painted on September 23rd in 90 minutes. Some sloppiness on the tail feathers in particular but I think it gets the point across fairly well.
Aaaand Dee-du-du-dee-dudu-dee Dat's All, Folks!
Well, for this week, at least.

Paint more.
So yeah. Only four paintings this week, one of which turned out quite poorly much to my chagrin. Still, I'll put it here as it IS one of many speedpaintings/studies, and thus qualifies for the blog. I also experimented a bit with a new approach to color this week. The overall results are, I think, quite pleasant -- With that one nagging exception!
Painted on September 13th in 60 minutes. Actually rather pleased with this one!
Painted on September 14th in 60 minutes. This one made me happy as well. Surely nothing can go wrong?!
Painted on September 15th in 150 minutes. FFFFUUUUUUUU--
Painted on September 16th in 120 minutes. Not unhappy with this one. Still need to get used to the new color approach though. Figure out what I did differently at the start of the week, kind of thing.
Right, that's all for this week! XOXOXO and that.

Untz untz let's paint more landscapes!
Another week has gone by, well mostly at least - I'll be busy this weekend with a SECRET(!). The good news, if you can call them that, is that the update is a day early! Yay.
So;
So;
60 minutes on September 7th
90 minutes on September 8th
80 minutes on September 9th
85 minutes on September 10th.
That's all I got this week, folks. Have a great weekend!

Another week... That means more paintings!
Right! Well, might as well get to it. Trying to wrap my head around environments now. They require a completely different approach than portraits, but the goal for me is, to keep things moving along in the same direction, to get a sense of the values involved. Pju, pju.
Painted on September 1st in 90 minutes. First landscape in a long time!
September 2nd. Again 90 minutes.
September 3rd. 75 minutes! Ooooh, fighting the clock :o
September 5th - 45 minutes. I'm surprised it looked like anything much at all after that little time, but I had to run some errands so it had to be called finished regardless!
Another quickie! An hour on this one, also from September 5th. Phew. Now I believe it's time to start cooking!

William Powell. Painted in 90 minutes on August 25th
Charles Ray - 90 minutes on August 26th
Vincent Price - 120 minutes on August 29th

I think I should probably mention here as well that I'm currently looking for work as an illustrator/concept artist/character designer. A portfolio will come up during the week in addition to the blog.

2010-08-16 Long time, no post!
Actually, I kind of have an excuse for not posting a whole lot, recently! School! That's right, school. I've been working as hard as I can to improve my all-round rendering techniques and production pipeline know-how. I'm taking a week off now, but after that I expect to sort of be back with more images. I expect the first one will be quite... sad, though. I am very much out of practise when it comes to value studies and painting from direct reference, so we'll see what happens!
Anyhow, here's the picture from the final week of the course (effective work-time was two days though, for reasons this blog has no business covering). Pitch painting for a CG music videos for Brigitte Bardot's Pas Davantage.
Crits and comments are as always a welcome addition to my day!

Another Sunday, Another Painting.
At school I'm currently exclusively devoting my time to doing line-art, and find little time or inspiration to actually paint during my off-hours. Consequently, I think I might be regressing! Trying to get one of these done a week at least with one day to recouperate at the moment.
I'm not complaining, school is some of the best fun I've ever had (and extremely enlightening!), but I think it'll be a while before I can make one of these again in decent time without too much frustration!
HAPPY FACE... ENGAGE!
Did this while nursing a hangover after two days of midsummer celebrations. Interesting experience!
(180 minutes on the 27th of June)
And... yeah, that's all, folks!
Sunday, 20 June 2010
Aaaah, a day off! What to do, what to do...
The sun is shining outside, birds are singing... What to do with this gorgeous summer day?
Well, sit inside and paint, of course!
Painted on the 20th of June. 150(!) minutes.
